Board of Selectpersons

An elected board of 7 members who act as the Town’s legislative body in all matters except the setting of the annual budget.

Among other powers, this Board may:

Enact, amend or repeal ordinances
Create, amend and abolish any board, department or position deemed necessary by a 2/3 majority
Contract with the State and Federal government
Call Special Town Meetings; accept or abandon roads
Administer purchases for boards other than the Board of Education
Incur debt on behalf of the Town
Engage in real estate transactions on behalf of the Town
Require any board to submit quarterly reports
Provide conduit for the public to petition an issue
